Flo Updyke and my Grandpap, Herbert Sheldon
I used to work with Flo Updyke at the "Corner Coffee Shop." She was a great lady and true friend. I first was a dishwasher. Then I got to work as a short-order cook. Her daughter worked there also. Flo made the pies in the morning and I helped make lye soap. I was just out of high school at the time, and I needed her help and guidance. I will remember her forever.
The shop would close every 4th of July, and so I could take my Grandfather Herbert Sheldon up north to New York. These were interesting and fun-filled times during the summers. My Grandfather loved to go visit his sister. I remember her house was beautiful. I even went to see the St. Lawrence Seaway in Canada. We went over the Peace Bridge to Canada and had the chance to see both sides of Niagra Falls. These were all great times.
