Fritzie - Our Family Pet
Submitted by Gaylord "Gator" Little

In 1951 one of my best friends was named Fritzie. Not only was he my dog, he was the equalizer in our family. You see there was my mom and my two sisters, but then there was my dad, Fritzie and myself that made up the boys in the household.
He was a very important part of my childhood from the time I was three until January 13th, 1957. Isn't it ironic that this thread came up this week and this Saturday it will be 50 years since I lost my puppy dog pal? He was hit by a car in Waterside and I cryed for days.
I wrote the date on the cellar wall and promised I'd never forget him. I was almost 9 and in third grade. It was tough getting off the school bus and Fritz was not there to greet me. We had a funeral and buried him in my mom's brand new Westinghouse electric skillet box. It was a sad day in the Little household.
Any of you that had a pet that seemed like a member of the family can imagine what effect it would have on a kid that loved that pet between the ages of 3 and 9 to lose that childhood friend.
I guess this is as good a place as any to not only remember our Toys From The Fifties but to remember special pets also.
HEY - PETS ARE PEOPLE TOO !
